Does Social Media allow Authenticity?
Are you living the truest version of yourself and feeling every minute of it? Now, if you are, that is what I call eutopia and the very essence of life. At one, at peace, and living in the highest spirit of love. Imagine that!!?
Imagine, if everyone was truly themselves. Wouldn’t the world be a better place? You’d think so, but it is such a challenge right now with all the distractions which support and offer us ways of not being ourselves and we fall for it, time and time again!
Is changing the way we look, considered for the Gram and being identified as “Instagood” healthy? Is this the way now in which we validate our level of authenticity? Or do we need to be the best podcaster and write a book about subjects that we have never studied for and just experimented with via a self created YouTube to attract followers? If you have 5 followers, are you unworthy compared to someone you admire with 1.5M followers? Discussing a subject that interests you doesn’t necessarily make the a specialist! We have got to be sensible enough to be discerning in terms of the difference of the profession of someone vs. the hobby of someone else. That misguided level of inauthenticity is not based whether someone is bad. It is based on the space in which we now deem the “truth” and believe this to be normal.
For example, a brand called Olaplex was released for ‘Professionals’…..fast forward some years later, the brand is now being sued as users have reported, burns and other complexities that have been negatively experience while using the product. Is it the fault of Olaplex when independent users are doing YouTube ‘How-To’ guides to show you how to use Olaplex 1 and 2, when its clearly states on the product ‘For Professional Use Only?’
With so many avenues in regards to acquiring information/brands/experiences, how many people actually question the source of information? Or read different perspectives on the same subject to make an educated decision on whether something is for them or not!? In some instances there needs to be some scientific support to validate findings to discern what is real and what may be potentially harmful?
Inauthencity isn’t always realised in time particularly when it is on Social platforms due to the fact that some people are brilliant at making something look real. Remember, some people are trained and PAID actors who’s job it is to make you believe that what you are experiencing is real.
I am going to leave you to really consider what you allow into your space and is it giving you the push to live in your wholeness, your true and your authenticity?
